General information about the results of patient and encounter searches are found in Locating a patient or encounter from the Search Results list. This topic explains the search differences for EMPI-enabled (Enterprise Master Person Index) enterprises when a search is performed by EPN (Enterprise Person Number) or other patient-centric data (name, MRN, GPI, and so forth).
After your search is performed, the system displays results as follows:
The system sorts the results by:

When retrieving data from more than one Hospital Information System, there is always the chance that disparities exist in the demographic data for the patient. If this is the case, the Patient Search module alerts you by flagging the data in question with a red question mark in the cell. Hover text provides the data that is different in each record. You can then research the patient's record to determine the accuracy of the item in question and resolve any discrepancies. For example, when performing a search on a patient with an EPN, the system might find three instances of the EPN across the enterprise. The records contain the same name but have three different SSNs. The system flags the SSN field in the Search Results table. The information displayed first is from the first encounter found by admission date.
Use the following table to access the list of documents for the patient/encounter and view the document images you need:
The system displays the document tree with all documents for the patient across facilities. |

The system displays the document tree with all documents for all encounters for a single facility. |

The system opens the viewer and displays the first document in the chart for that encounter. (This function is the same as a non-EMPI enterprise.) |
