Patient Search Window

The Patient Search window displays fields that allow you to search the Horizon Patient Folder database for a patient or encounter. It also displays the results of the search. Some of the field labels may be customized for your enterprise (for example, Encounter, Discharge).

Item descriptions

The following descriptions identify the items on the Patient Search window, which can include buttons, fields, lists, grids, and links:

Facility

Displays the names of the facilities to which you have permissions; for multi-facility enterprises, you can select one or all. Search results are limited to the facility selected.

Encounter

Allows you to conduct a search on an encounter number for the patient. You must enter at least three alphanumeric characters. A maximum of 20 characters is allowed.

MRN

Allows you to conduct a search on the MRN for the patient. You must enter at least three alphanumeric characters. A maximum of 20 characters is allowed.

GPI

Allows you to conduct a search on the GPI (Global Patient Identifier) for the patient. You must enter at least three alphanumeric characters. A maximum of 20 characters is allowed. This is an enterprise setting that may not be implemented for your organization.

SSN

Allows you to conduct a search on the Social Security Number of the patient. Use the SSN length approved by your organization. You must enter at least three alphanumeric characters. The system does not require you to enter hyphens.

Last Name

Allows you to conduct a search on the last name of the patient. You must enter at least three alphanumeric characters between the First and Last name fields. A maximum of 40 characters is allowed.

First Name

Allows you to conduct a search on the first name of the patient. You must enter at least three alphanumeric characters between the First and Last name fields. A maximum of 40 characters is allowed.

Admission +/- days

Allows you to conduct a search on the admission date of the encounter. Use the date format approved by your organization or click on the calendar to select a date. The date must be after 1900. The +/- days field allows you to indicate a range of days (up to 9) before and after the admission date you enter.

Discharge +/- days

Allows you to conduct a search on the discharge date of the encounter. Use the date format approved by your organization or click on the calendar to select a date. The date must be after 1900. The +/- days field allows you to indicate a range of days (up to 9) before and after the discharge date you enter.

Date of Birth

Allows you to conduct a search on the patient's date of birth. Use the date format approved by your organization or click on the calendar to select a date. The system does not accept a future date. Also, use this field or Age, not both.

Age

Allows you to filter your search criteria using the patient's age in years. The +/- years field allows you to indicate a range of years (up to 99) earlier and later than the age you enter. To search using the age fields, you must also enter a first and/or last name. Use this field or Date of Birth, not both.

Note: An age entry greater than 150 or a DOB that occured more than 150 years ago returns an error.

Sex

Allows you to conduct a search using the patient's sex as a filter. This must be combined with either of the name fields (first and/or last). To fill the Sex field, use the list box to select Male, Female, or All.

Search button

Initiates the search using the criteria you entered.

Reset button

Clears the search fields, allowing you to enter new search criteria. Clicking this button returns cursor focus to the Encounter field.
