Adding an Assignment

When processing assignments, you may want to add an assignment from the viewer for an encounter you are accessing. You can add the assignment to any queue to which you have access. If you do not have permission to access personal queues, the Personal option is not available.

Note: You can add an assignment for only the encounter you are currently working with. Also, only encounters with at least one document can have an assignment added. Both these conditions are different from HPF Workstation functionality.

To add an assignment, follow these steps:

  1. Use the steps in To Select Your Assignments to access one, many, or all of your assignments.
  2. Access the viewer for the encounter for which you want to add an assignment.
  3. Do one of the following:
  4. The system displays the Add Assignment window with the Encounter and Facility fields pre-filled and the Shared option selected.

  5. To send the assignment to a shared queue, leave Shared selected. Otherwise, select Personal. This determines the queues listed in the Queue box.
  6. In the Queue field, enter the queue name. If you need to search for a queue, enter at least the first three characters of the queue name, select Order By (A-Z or Z-A), and click Search. Then select the queue for the assignment from the results set.
  7. In the Reason field, enter the reason for the assignment. You can select from a standard list of reasons (click the down arrow), select a standard reason and append free text, or enter free text only.

Notes: You can enter a maximum of 260 alphanumeric characters. (The audit trail displays 255.) If you have a long string of text that you want included in this field, it must contain spaces. If it does not, the 'more information' icon does not appear and the reason is truncated.

  8. Click one of the following to govern system action after the assignment is added:
  9. Click Add.
  10. The system adds the assignment to the queue you specified.
