To Search by Patient Name

The Patient Search window is displayed when you access the Patient Search module.

To access a patient record using a patient name search:

  1. Access the Patient Search window.
  2. If necessary, select the facility you need from the Facility list box.
  3. Do the following:
  4. Note: If the patient's name in the database contains an apostrophe, enter the name with the apostrophe. Also, if the name format for your enterprise is < last name >,< space >< first name > and you know the last name and first initial of the first name, enter the last name in the Last Name field and in the First Name field, enter: ,< space >< first initial of first name >. Otherwise the module will find all first names containing the first letter in any position.

  5. Enter any other search criteria that might help filter your search, such as either date of birth or age, and/or sex.

The system returns all results that match your search criteria. See About Search Results.

If the module is unable to locate the patient record based on your entry, the system returns an appropriate message; this may help you select other criteria on which to search.

Tip: When you perform a search (by last name, for example), the system returns the cursor focus to the same field. The last entry is highlighted. To enter another last name for a new search, just begin typing. (To return to the same field you have been searching on, do not click the Reset button, which automatically places the cursor focus in the Encounter field.)
