To Search by MRN or GPI

The Patient Search window is displayed when you access the Patient Search module.

To access a patient record using a Medical Record Number (MRN) or Global Person Identifier (GPI) search:

1. Access the Patient Search window.
2. If necessary, select the facility you need from the Facility list box.
3. Do the following:
• Enter the patient's MRN in the MRN field. You must enter at least three characters; a maximum of 20 characters is allowed.

OR

• Enter the patient's GPI in the GPI field. You must enter at least three characters; a maximum of 20 characters is allowed.

Note: If you enter the entire, correct MRN or GPI, and the number is in the database, the system returns the exact patient match (unless duplicate numbers exist in the system, then more than one patient could be returned). You do not need to enter any other search criteria.

4. If you enter a partial number, enter any other search criteria that might help filter your search, such as last name.
5. Do one of the following:
• To clear the search fields and enter new data, click the Reset button.
• To continue performing the search with the data you have entered, click the Search button.

The system returns all results that match your search criteria. See About Search Results.

If the module is unable to locate the patient record based on your entry, the system returns an appropriate message; this may help you select other criteria on which to search.
