Document Menu and Toolbar Items

The Document menu on the viewer provides the menu items in the following list. When menu items have a corresponding button on the toolbar, the button icon is provided, as are any accelerator keys.

Note: Some items on the Document menu are not available when in text editing mode.

Item descriptions

The following list describes the menu and toolbar items. The Document menu has the following sub-menus: Size, Zoom, Rotate, and Enhance. (Any sub-menu name is included with the menu item in the list below.)

Font

Displays the Font window that allows you to change the font face and size for COLD documents (with the 'Display as text' option on) only. This allows you to view the text in the image more easily. Your selection is saved across viewer sessions.

Display as Text

Option that allows you to display ASCII COLD documents as text (without the overlay). This allows faster loading of the image in the viewer window and improves performance. For COLD documents, this is the default. This option is not available for documents being text edited, as the document is already being displayed as text. Fit, rotate, zoom, and enhance options are disabled when this is on. Your selection is saved across viewer sessions.

Fit Width
Size/Fit to Width (Alt+F5)

Displays the entire width of the image in the window. This is the default display for scanned and COLD documents displayed with overlay only (not displayed as text). Your selection is saved across viewer sessions.

Fit Height
Size/Fit to Height (Ctrl+F5)

Displays the entire height of the image in the window. Applies to scanned images and COLD documents displayed with overlay only (not displayed as text). Your selection is saved across viewer sessions.

Best fit
Size/Best Fit (F5)

Displays the entire image in the window while maintaining the aspect ratio. Applies to scanned images and COLD documents displayed with overlay only (not displayed as text). Your selection is saved across viewer sessions.

Actual Size
Size/Sizing options (F2)

Based on the size of the original image, changes the viewed size by 25% to 400%. Actual size is 100%. Applies to scanned images and COLD documents displayed with overlay only (not displayed as text). Your selection is saved across viewer sessions.

Note: Due to the software used to render the image, Actual Size is typically larger than the actual size of the paper scanned or the document from a COLD feed (with 'Display as Text' off).

Rubberband zoom
Zoom/Rubberband Zoom

Allows you to enlarge a specific area of the image you want to look at more closely. Click on the button, then click the left mouse button on the image and draw a rectangle over the area you want to enlarge. When you release the mouse button, the area of the image in the rectangle zooms in to fit the viewport. This is the default for a missing text deficiency. (This option toggles with grab scroll - either one or the other is active.) Applies to scanned images and COLD documents displayed with overlay only (not displayed as text).

Grab Scroll
Zoom/Grab Scroll

When clicked on, Grab Scroll turns your cursor into a hand icon that brings different parts of an image into the window. When you click your left mouse button and hold it down, you can move it up/down, left/right to scroll the document. (This option toggles with rubberband zoom - either one or the other is active.) Applies to scanned images and COLD documents displayed with overlay only (not displayed as text).

Zoom in
Zoom/Zoom In (F3)

Enlarges the current image by 25% in relation to actual size every time you select this item. Applies to scanned images and COLD documents displayed with overlay only (not displayed as text).

Zoom out
Zoom/Zoom Out (F4)

Reduces the current image by 25% in relation to actual size every time you select this item. Applies to scanned images and COLD documents displayed with overlay only (not displayed as text).

Rotate left
Rotate/Rotate Left (Alt+L)

Rotates the image 90 degrees counter-clockwise. Applies to scanned images and COLD documents displayed with overlay only (not displayed as text).

Rotate right
Rotate/Rotate Right (Alt+R)

Rotates the image 90 degrees clockwise. Applies to scanned images and COLD documents displayed with overlay only (not displayed as text).

Enhance/Invert (F6)

Inverts the image between black-on-white and white-on-black. Applies to scanned images and COLD documents displayed with overlay only (not displayed as text).

Enhance/Scale to Gray

Allows you to convert the image to various shades of gray. This improves the quality of image display and provides a sharper image. Bitonal image quality is enhanced by promoting it to an 8-bit grayscale. Applies to scanned images and COLD documents displayed with overlay only (not displayed as text).
